Depending on the type of competition, targets may be: roundels with a centre spot and rings marking the scoring areas; paper faces depicting animals, marked with scoring areas; foam 3D animal targets, also with designated scoring areas.
Depending on the competition, targets may be at ‘marked’ distances (the archer is told the distance from the shooting pegs to the target) whilst other competition rounds can be ‘unmarked’ distances (where the archer has to estimate the distance from shooting peg to target, and make his shot accordingly, taking into consideration variables such as dead ground or steep slopes).
