Training

New archers enjoying a training session on a lovely summer's evening

Beginners’ Course equipment provided.

Cost £50

ALL ARCHERS UNDER 18 MUST HAVE A PARENT OR NOMINATED PERSON WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES

If you are interested in beginners’ training please contact training@ballandsbowmen.co.uk for course details. Beginners’ courses are normally held on weekday evenings during the autumn/winter, in Wincanton. We currently have a waiting list for beginners’ training.

After the Beginners’ Course you may be invited to join Ballands Bowmen.   The cost of joining Ballands Bowmen: Adults £58, Juniors (under 18) and full-time students £29  (2024 Fees).

At this stage you need to purchase your own equipment.  It is advisable to do this with the advice of a senior Club Member.  Costs vary depending on what type of bow you select.

Membership will enable to you to shoot with supervision at any of the Club Venues but you will not, at this stage, be able to enter Open Shoots. You may continue to shoot at Club venues only.  However, if you want to shoot in open competition you will need to do an Outdoor Course at Penselwood; the number of sessions needed will depend on the individual.

Once you have reached a satisfactory standard you may wish to take part in archery competitions. Ballands Bowmen is affiliated to 3 societies: Archery GB (target and field archery, both national and international), English Field Archery Association (field archery, national and international) and National Field Archery Society (field archery within the UK). Membership costs and types of competition vary. Your archery coaches will be able to explain more fully.
