First Aid Course

“Nine Ballands Committee and key Club members attended a one-day Emergency First Aid course on 12th September. Tamzin, our instructor from RingFenced Training, covered all aspects of emergency first aid required for the exam at the end of the course, but also considered the specific emergencies most likely to be encountered during archery practice or competition.

Everyone passed and will shortly receive recognised First Aid certificates, valid for three years. Andrew, Jane, Lizzy, Adam, Di, Pauline, Penny, Colin and Sonya now join our other currently qualified First Aiders, Jennie and Luke. Naturally we hope that nobody will require their services.

A special thank you to Penny for making this course happen, as for various reasons it turned out to be quite a challenge to organise.”

Ballands Archers in G.B. Team

Report by 'The Badger'

Two Ballands archers have been chosen to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the European Field Archery Championships in Italy this September. Ballands' archers Andrew, and Lizzy Rees received the acknowledgement of their peers when the team was announced at the end of the two-day shoot at Overton on July 24th. It is a fitting reward for Andrew and Lizzy, who have dominated the barebow division in this year's domestic competitions.

The Championships will be held between 13th and 17th September in Montevarchi, with results available at:

Top freestyle archer Penny Cox hits 3 x 10 from 80 yds, Pleased you bet she was, just look at that smile.

Alan Hood

Last spotted on the 10-04-2011 attending Ashcombe Valley's open field shoot. Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of this dangerous Archer should contact the Sheriff of Ballads’  Chris Pleasants. Chris is probably the only Archer in Great Britain with the skills necessary to defeat this cunning man of the forest.
